Auction of Colombian Coffee Registered Highest Price Ever

Coffee Network (Bogota) – Colombian coffee grower Wilton Benítez auctioned a pound at $200.32, the highest value recorded for a 100% Colombian coffee, setting a new benchmark for the national industry, the coffee growers federation said.

On average, the auction achieved a price of USD $46.57 per pound, reflecting the strong appreciation of Colombian coffee in international markets.

Mr. Benitez grows his coffee in the Paraíso 92 farm in the department of Cauca, which sold for USD $200.32 per pound.

This auction took place as part of Cafés de Colombia Expo 2025

During three days of online bidding, buyers from Asia, Europe, and the Americas actively participated in 534 bids on 20 lots, equivalent to 960 kilograms of coffee.

“This auction marks a turning point in the marketing of Colombian specialty coffee. Not only did we break records for price and participation, but we also demonstrated to the world the sensorial richness and excellence of our producers. Each bid was a recognition of the work of thousands of coffee growers who make it possible for Colombia to continue to be synonymous with quality,” emphasized José Martínez, Director of Processing and Added Value for the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC).

The auction included the winners of the last five editions of the Colombia, Land of Diversity competition, which recognizes coffees with exceptional attributes in flavor, aroma, and processing. The lots came from emblematic regions such as Cauca, Huila, Tolima, Antioquia, Nariño, and Risaralda, with exotic varieties (naturally processed) such as Geisha, Java, and Chiroso, using washed, semi-washed, and natural processes.

According to the FNC, this event represents a decisive step toward strengthening direct marketing channels, increasing added value for producing communities, and giving greater international visibility to Colombian origin coffee. The participation of buyers from Japan, South Korea, France, China, Taiwan, the United States, and Colombia once again consolidated the prestige of Colombian coffee as one of the most highly valued in the world.

With this first 100% virtual Craft Selection, the National Federation of Coffee Growers is advancing the implementation of a modern and transparent marketing model that fosters competition and the fair appreciation of the country's finest coffees.

The successful response from international buyers confirms that Colombia continues to position itself as a global benchmark for single-origin coffees, opening up new opportunities for growth and sustainability for the sector.

Colombia hosted its Café de Colombia fair last week and early this week.

The fair featured 150 exhibitors and will host the traditional National Barista Championship, now in its 19th year, and the Colombian Roasters Championship, now in its 3rd year, in addition to the Olla Championship.

The academic program for industry professionals included lectures, panels, and workshops on sustainability, traceability, cultivation techniques, and business models.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 11

August 11 – It was generally a quiet night for the markets until early this morning when a headline hit that Iran and Oman were close to reaching a deal. Stock futures rallied, while the dollar index followed Treasury yields lower, along with active selling in the energy- and food-based commodities. The headline had limited impact though in a world that has become skeptical of promises of peace. Stock futures remain steady to firmer at this hour, while the VIX trades near 16 – just above 2026 lows. The dollar index is trading near 99.8 this morning, after recovering from its early morning selloff over the following hour of trade. Yields on 10-year Treasuries are trading near 4.69%, while yields on 2-year Treasuries trade near 4.22%. WTI crude oil is trading near $82 per barrel at this hour, while Brent trades near $88. The grain and oilseed markets are mostly weaker, after failing to recover from this morning’s early selloff that started in the crude oil market.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 10

August 10 – The world commodity markets and economy remains at risk amid two wars this morning. Tensions continue to escalate in both the Middle East and the Black Sea – risking pulling other countries into the conflicts. Stocks are down modestly this morning as we start a week of trade in which we’ll see key inflation and retail sales data following a weak jobs report this past Friday. Yet, stocks continue to trade just below record high levels, with the VIX trading near 2026 lows just above 15. The dollar index is trading near 99.7. Yields on 10-year Treasuries are trading near 4.68%, while yields on 2-year Treasuries are trading near 4.23%. The energy and food-based markets are firmer today amid the escalated risks. WTI crude oil is trading near $80, while Brent trades near $85 per barrel. Double-digit gains in the winter wheat markets lead the way for higher grain and oilseed prices.
