Colombia’s Coffee Exporters Association Holds Annual Meeting, Focus on European Green Pact

Coffee Network (Bogota)- The Colombian coffee exporters association Asoexport will hold its annual coffee summit on November 2 and 3 in Cartagena, which will be highly awaited as the finance minister and other government officials will attend to answer demands of coffee growers.

The summit, the 87th conference of its kind, will address the main challenges that have the country's coffee exports, with a focus on issues such as the European Green Pact and the global outlook of grain supply and demand.

The Hyatt hotel in Cartagena will be the epicenter of the 87th edition of the Summit Coffee maker, organized by the National Association of Coffee Exporters of Colombia (Asoexport) and the National Foreign Trade Association (Analdex).

During the first day, the first tasting sessions of Colombian robusta coffee, will take place prior to registration, to learn more about the export potential of this variety.

On the second day, the Minister of Finance Ricardo Bonilla; Germán Bahamón, general manager of the National Federation of coffee growers; Gabriel Duque, director of the Colombian Commercial Office in Brussels will address market participants.

Other attendees include Eileen Gordon Laity, general secretary of the European Coffee Federation, among others.

“Between the public and private sectors, we must build a roadmap to

ensure the sustainability of exports of a sector on which they depend

about 540,000 families. In this sense, we will address challenges such as that of the European Green Pct and topics such as industry growth prospects and

global panorama of coffee supply and demand,” said Gustavo Gómez,

president of Asoexport.

Javier Díaz, president of Analdex, indicated that the drop in coffee exports and prices is explained by falling international demand and a drop in commodities. “There are pending tasks such as renewal of coffee plantations to continue serving international markets withthe quality that we are known for abroad.”

According to the statistics department Dane, coffee exports, between January and August of this year, reached US$1,858 million, with a drop of 31.4% compared to the same period of 2022, when it was US$2,708 million, a difference of US$850 million.

The Coffee Summit stands out for being the only international event where

debate on the challenges and opportunities of coffee of Colombian origin and

Latin American, being an opportunity to connect with the most

important in the industry and to update yourself on coffee trends,

export risks and sustainability.

The conference will bring together more than 300 participants who will exchange ideas in business sessions and forums.

Since its first version, it has brought together nearly 4,000 participants

from 15 countries.
