Colombia's Coffee Production Rebounds in July: 1.373 Million Bags Mark 19% Increase

Bogota (Coffee Network)- Coffee output in Colombia, the world's third- largest coffee producer, yielded 1.373 million bags in July, up 19% from the same month last year, the coffee growers federation said early today.

July’s production level puts an end to three consecutive months of declines on the year.

The production level of July is also higher than the 909,000 bags recorded in June.

FNC forecasts a production of 7.1 million bags for the second half of the year, according to the FNC’s general manager Germán Bahamón.

If the target is correct, it implies that Colombia will produce around 13.31 million bags in the calendar year 2025 as it produced 6.21 million bags in the first half of the year. That would be lower than the 13.997 million bags produced in 2024.

In the 12-month period, Colombia produced 14.604 million bags, up 18% from the 12.359 million bags in the same period last year.

The rise of production in July happens as rains earlier this year displaced the harvest of the first half of the year to the second half of the year, FNC said.

“This behavior, anticipated by the FNC, is due to the delay in the appearance of the main harvest of the first half of the year, caused by an atypical weather pattern marked by persistent rains throughout the first half of the year. This alteration shifted the harvest to the second half of the year, registering a higher coffee flow in this month,” FNC said.

FNC had recently said the climate in 2025 poses two significant challenges: first, the delay and lag in the southern harvest; and second, and of greater concern, the impact it will have on the main harvest in the second half of the year due to the poor flowering observed in February, the federation said.

Some 100 coffee hectares were destroyed in Colombia’s largest coffee-producing province of Huila in June as the river Suaza overflooded coffee plantations located in the town of Acevedo. Torrential rains in Colombia have prompted landslides in the southern departments of Narino, Cauca and Huila with 937 coffee-growing families affected and landslides present at 314 coffee hectares, said a technical report from a regional coffee committee obtained

Colombia picked its secondary harvest, known as mitaca, between April until late July in the southern provinces of Narino, Cauca and Huila. Usually that harvest is picked in April-June.

Despite this situation, cumulative production for the year to date (2025) maintains a positive trend with a +9% growth to 7.585 million bags.

In the coffee year through July, Colombia produced 12.484 million bags, up 17% on the year when it yielded 10.638 million bags.

Exports Increase

Colombia exported 1.147 million bags in July 2025, up 12% from the 1.019 million bags in the same month last year.

The National Coffee Fund controlled by FNC increased its exports by 27% to 233,000 bags compared to 184,000 bags in July 2024.

Private exporters shipped 914,000 bags in July, up 9% on the year.

Colombia has shipped 13.1 million 60-kg bags worldwide in the last 12 months, representing a +14% increase compared to the same period last year when it dispatched 11.495 million bags.

In the coffee year, Colombia shipped 11.072 million bags, up from 9.838 million bags in the same period last year.

In January-July, Colombia exported 7.535 million bags, up 11% on the year.

In July, Colombians consumed a preliminary figure of 217,000 bags, a sharp recovery from the estimated 150,000 bags in May. Between August 2024 and July 2025, Colombia consumed 2.239 million bags were consumed locally.

Colombian coffee imports jumped in July to 104,000 bags, up 85% from the 56,000 bags recorded in the same month last year. Colombia was importing figures below 100,000 bags month since the beginning of the year.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 11

August 11 – It was generally a quiet night for the markets until early this morning when a headline hit that Iran and Oman were close to reaching a deal. Stock futures rallied, while the dollar index followed Treasury yields lower, along with active selling in the energy- and food-based commodities. The headline had limited impact though in a world that has become skeptical of promises of peace. Stock futures remain steady to firmer at this hour, while the VIX trades near 16 – just above 2026 lows. The dollar index is trading near 99.8 this morning, after recovering from its early morning selloff over the following hour of trade. Yields on 10-year Treasuries are trading near 4.69%, while yields on 2-year Treasuries trade near 4.22%. WTI crude oil is trading near $82 per barrel at this hour, while Brent trades near $88. The grain and oilseed markets are mostly weaker, after failing to recover from this morning’s early selloff that started in the crude oil market.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 10

August 10 – The world commodity markets and economy remains at risk amid two wars this morning. Tensions continue to escalate in both the Middle East and the Black Sea – risking pulling other countries into the conflicts. Stocks are down modestly this morning as we start a week of trade in which we’ll see key inflation and retail sales data following a weak jobs report this past Friday. Yet, stocks continue to trade just below record high levels, with the VIX trading near 2026 lows just above 15. The dollar index is trading near 99.7. Yields on 10-year Treasuries are trading near 4.68%, while yields on 2-year Treasuries are trading near 4.23%. The energy and food-based markets are firmer today amid the escalated risks. WTI crude oil is trading near $80, while Brent trades near $85 per barrel. Double-digit gains in the winter wheat markets lead the way for higher grain and oilseed prices.
