Peru Exports 3.511 Million Bags of Coffee In Jan-Nov, Drops 6.9% on the year:  Coffee and Cocoa Chamber

Coffee Network (Bogotá)- Peru shipped 3.511 million bags of 60-kg in January-November, down by 260,00 bags from the 3.77 million bags shipped in the same period last year, the Peruvian coffee and cocoa chamber said.

Peru shipped 467,000 bags of 60-kg in November, down from 717,000 bags in October, and lower 760,000 bags in September, according to information from the import-export data company Veritrade.

However, this lower volume did not translate into a reduction in FOB value.

On the contrary, the cumulative value of exports in 2025 reached US$1.562 billion, exceeding the figure reached by this time in 2024, which was US$1.021 billion, despite having exported a larger volume that year. This dynamic reflects the central role that the average price played in revenue generation during the analyzed period.

Price Evolution and its Impact on Export Value

One of the most relevant elements of the sector's performance in 2025 was the evolution of the average price. Between January and November, the average price of Peruvian coffee reached US$341 per quintal, the highest level in recent years.

In comparison, the average price was US$208 per quintal in 2024 and US$186

per quintal in 2023.

This price increase allowed for sustained high export value, even with volumes that did not surpass the peak of the previous year. The observed behavior confirms that price was the main determinant of the sector's economic performance during 2025, mitigating volume variations and consolidating itself as the key variable for the period.

Export Business Structure

Export activity remained highly concentrated in a small group of leading companies, which accounted for a significant proportion of the total bags exported during the year. These companies maintained a consistent presence throughout the months, with well-defined export peaks and a clear capacity to handle large volumes on a recurring basis.

Alongside this main group, the sector included a significant number of medium and small exporters, whose individual participation was limited, but which collectively contributed to diversifying the export offering. The coexistence of both groups reflects a sector structure where scale and operational continuity are key factors for international competitiveness.

The main exporters were Perales Huancaruna which led exports contributing with 427,344 bags, or 12.10% of total. This was followed by Olam Agro Peru with 329,714 bags with 9.33% of the total. The third largest coffee exporter is Comercio Amazonia with 141,546 bags.

Main Export Destinations

Peruvian coffee exports maintained a high geographic concentration. The United States consolidated its position as the main destination, with 1.09 million bags, representing approximately 31% of total exports during the January–November 2025 period. This market generated an FOB value of US$8.8 million, confirming its central role within the sector's commercial structure. Germany ranked second, with 640,000 bags and a share of approximately 18%, followed by Belgium with 360,000 bags and Canada with 346,000 bags, both with shares of approximately 10%. Colombia completed the group of the top five destinations, with 223,000 bags exported.

Together, these five markets accounted for more than 75% of the total volume exported, highlighting the sector's strong dependence on a limited group of traditional destinations.

Valuation Differences by Market

The analysis of FOB value by destination shows significant differences in the valuation of Peruvian coffee. While the United States registered average prices close to US$6.16 per bag, other markets presented lower unit prices, such as Colombia, with an average of US$3.82 per bag.

These differences indicate that not all markets contribute equally to value creation, even when they absorb significant volumes.

The destination structure not only determines product placement but also the actual income obtained from exports.

Monthly Dynamics and Shipment Patterns

The monthly export pattern showed an irregular distribution throughout the year. Months with particularly high volumes were recorded, followed by periods of lower activity, which is consistent with the seasonality of the harvest and the logistical cycles of international coffee trade.

Some companies concentrated a significant portion of their shipments in specific months, while others maintained a more stable flow. This heterogeneity demonstrates different commercial strategies, which may be due to both supply availability and decisions related to prices, contracts, and market windows.

Other Products Linked to the Coffee Sector

In addition to green coffee, Peruvian foreign trade includes other products related to the coffee sector, both in exports and imports. These products represent considerably smaller volumes, but contribute to the diversification of the supply and reflect the existence of specific segments within the market.

While their aggregate impact is limited compared to green coffee, their constant presence indicates an opportunity for differentiation and the development of products with a higher level of processing or geared towards particular niches.

Exports of soluble coffee totaled 3.889 million kilograms. Peru exported a total of 7.360 million kg other coffee products.

Imports and the Domestic Market

Coffee-related imports showed stable behavior throughout the analyzed period. These flows respond mainly to demand  from the domestic market and the need to supply specific consumer segments not covered by national production.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 10

August 10 – The world commodity markets and economy remains at risk amid two wars this morning. Tensions continue to escalate in both the Middle East and the Black Sea – risking pulling other countries into the conflicts. Stocks are down modestly this morning as we start a week of trade in which we’ll see key inflation and retail sales data following a weak jobs report this past Friday. Yet, stocks continue to trade just below record high levels, with the VIX trading near 2026 lows just above 15. The dollar index is trading near 99.7. Yields on 10-year Treasuries are trading near 4.68%, while yields on 2-year Treasuries are trading near 4.23%. The energy and food-based markets are firmer today amid the escalated risks. WTI crude oil is trading near $80, while Brent trades near $85 per barrel. Double-digit gains in the winter wheat markets lead the way for higher grain and oilseed prices.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 7

August 7 – The U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23k jobs in July, dramatically below market expectations of an 80k increase and marking the worst Non-Farm Payrolls print since February. Furthermore, May and June were both revised sharply downward, with combined revisions showing 103k fewer jobs than previously reported. Outside of the healthcare sector, which added 22k jobs in July, the losses were very broad-based. Government payrolls saw the largest decline, shedding 53k jobs in July, the largest seen since October 2025, while June was revised down to show a loss of 10k jobs as well. The private sector at least saw growth, adding 30k jobs in July, now matching the month prior after it was revised down from the 49k initially reported, and substantially missing forecasts of 78k jobs being added. This is a sharp reversal in course from the largely better than expected U.S. labor data seen earlier this week.
