Rainfall In April Set To Reach Highest In First Rainy Season in Colombia

Bogota (Coffee Network ) – April is part of the first rainy season of the year in Colombia with the highest rainfall expected in this month for the rainy season which runs mid-March through mid-June, the coffee research body Cenicafe said.

April is part of the first rainy season of the year, a time in which the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is located in the center of the national territory, favoring rainfall in the central coffee zone. In the eastern part of the country, rainfall depends more on the fluctuations associated with the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) and the entry of humid masses from the south of the continent, which favor rainfall in the Amazon and support the transition of the season, Cenicafé said.

April is the month with the highest rainfall of the first rainy season of the year in most of the region, due to the fact that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is located in the center of the national territory. In much of the region, the volumes of rain occur between 150 mm and 300 mm. Precipitation with values greater than 300 mm occurs in sectors of Eastern Antioquia and Caldas, Western Boyacá, Northern Tolima, Western Valle del Cauca, Southwestern Cundinamarca and Southern Huila.

March Rainfall Higher than Average

Rains began in mid March with the coffee stations Bertha (Boyacá), La Trinidad (Tolima), El Rosario (Antioquia), Misiones (Cundinamarca), La Catalina (Risaralda) Paraguaicito (Quindío), Jorge Villamil (Huila), Naranjal (Caldas) and La Sirena (Valle del Cauca) above the historical range. The number of days with rain greater than or equal to 0.1 mm, with a cut-off of March 28, 2023, was 27 days for El Rosario, 24 days for Naranjal, 22 days for La Sirena, 21 days for Misiones, 20 days for Bertha, 19 days for Jorge Villamil and Paraguaicito, 18 days for La Catalina and 13 days for La Trinidad, Cenicafé added.
