British Pound Chart Signals Clash Across Time Frames Into Month-End

Sterling has fallen for four consecutive sessions and trades more than 1% below its recent high, after a 2.15% rally off major support stalled at long-term resistance. British pound technical analysis across weekly, daily and four-hour charts shows an uptrend that remains intact but is now pressing on near-term support inside a year-long range. The pullback arrives as a cluster of event risk builds around the UK budget, the Federal Reserve rate decision and U.S. inflation and growth data. For the British pound, the chart structure defines where the uptrend holds and where the yearly range comes back into play.

Michael Boutros, StoneX Media Senior Market Analyst, has more than 20 years of experience trading foreign exchange, commodities and equity indices across numerous trade desks. He analyzes currencies such as the British pound through a structured technical approach applied across multiple time frames, with a medium-term, event-driven focus.

Key Themes

  • Sterling posts a fourth consecutive daily decline, falling more than 1% below its recent high.
  • The weekly chart keeps the British pound inside a year-long range below long-term resistance.
  • A daily close below four-hour support shifts the focus back to the yearly range low.

Sterling Rejects Weekly Resistance and Stays Inside Its Yearly Range

The British pound failed at weekly resistance where the 50% retracement converges with the 52-week moving average, keeping sterling inside its year-long range. "We are now poised to mark a fourth consecutive down day, more than 1% off the highs," Boutros says of the pullback that followed the failed recovery. The weekly chart therefore keeps the British pound contained between the yearly low close and the high-week close of 2025. A break above the resistance zone is still what the structure needs to fuel the next leg of the advance, whereas a retreat keeps the range intact.

Sterling's Four-Hour Support Decides Whether the Yearly Range Breaks

On the four-hour chart, sterling has broken the median line of a pitchfork drawn from the lows and is approaching a tight 20-pip support zone defined by the objective monthly open and the 61.8% retracement. Notably, that zone converges with the pitchfork's lower parallel, making it the first real test of the British pound's uptrend. A daily close below the zone would nullify the advance and return the focus to the yearly range low. According to Boutros, "that's the level the bears would need to beat and mark a daily close, a weekly close below to suggest a breakout of that yearly range".
