Eric Rose, StoneX Head of Digital Asset Execution, discusses how blockchain technology is driving the rise of digital assets and transforming finance.
Rose describes the emergence of blockchain as the foundation of a new asset class that will influence financial systems for years. He notes that while Bitcoin was the first digital asset, broader applications of blockchain are now spreading through the economy. “Most of it will be behind the scenes, and people won’t realize that blockchain is being applied to what they’re doing”.
The limited supply of Bitcoin sets it apart from government-issued currencies. Rose highlights its role as a potential hedge against inflation and government policy shifts. “Bitcoin does have a hard cap of 21 million bitcoins that will ever be mined”.
Ethereum is positioned as the infrastructure for decentralized applications. Rose compares it to a digital highway that enables new business models while generating value through transaction tolls. This expands the scope of blockchain beyond simple currency.
Looking ahead, Rose expects blockchain adoption to extend into areas like data transfer and everyday transactions. He notes both growing interest and skepticism in digital assets, but frames that gap in understanding as an opportunity. “When you have a very small percentage of investable universe that even understands digital assets, that seems like an opportunity” .
