After weeks of relentless buying that drove record prices, gold and silver markets are flashing early warning signs. Classical technical patterns are emerging just as sentiment reaches extremes, suggesting the potential for near-term pullbacks within their broader bullish structures. The tension between market enthusiasm and technical resistance now defines the next key phase for precious metals traders.
Razan Hilal, Market Analyst at FOREX.com, examines how these chart signals frame the risk and opportunity facing gold and silver, focusing on momentum exhaustion, support levels, and structural resilience.
Key Themes
Gold formed a double-top pattern near the 4003 level, signaling a potential short-term reversal.
Silver traced a head-and-shoulders formation below 5440, hinting at short-term weakness within a longer-term uptrend.
Despite these formations, both metals remain within multi-year ascending structures dating back to 2016.
Hilal notes that gold’s rally has met resistance near the 4003 peak, forming a classic double-top pattern that could lead to a 300-point correction if support breaks. The $4,000 level has become a decisive threshold: holding above it maintains the bullish bias, while a move below may extend declines toward 3920 and 3780. As she explains, “price action remains above that target and yet still below the neckline”, highlighting indecision between buyers and sellers at critical support.
Silver Mirrors Gold’s Technical Weakness
Silver’s setup reinforces the broader caution across precious metals. The formation of a head-and-shoulders pattern, right below the 5440 mark, aligns with long-term resistance stretching back to the 1980s. Hilal emphasizes that a close above 5080 could reignite gains, while failure to hold above 47 would expose downside targets at 4440 and 4290. She concludes that “the primary uptrend across gold and silver charts remains bullish”, but that short-term pullbacks must be watched closely in sensitive market conditions.
