Brazil soybean oil seasonality follows a clear pattern, with supply tightening once the peak crush season passes and biodiesel demand building into the strongest months of the year. That rhythm matters well beyond Brazil's borders, because Brazilian soybean oil exports have grown sharply, with India absorbing most of the volume. When the domestic balance tightens, Brazilian soybean oil prices find support at home and the product becomes less competitive abroad. Understanding the calendar helps explain why a market that traded sideways for months can suddenly firm.
Isabela Garcia, StoneX Brazil, Senior Market Intelligence Analyst, produces commodity market intelligence and pricing research on grain, oilseed and vegetable oil markets for commercial agricultural clients across South America, covering the crush, biofuel and export flows that shape Brazilian soybean oil.

Brazilian Soybean Oil Supply Tightens as Peak Crush Season Ends
"This follows the seasonality of the Brazilian market. The peak of crush season is behind us," Garcia says of the recovery in domestic soybean oil prices. Brazilian soybean oil supply tightens once the peak crush season ends, as evidenced by the Paranaguá reference price gaining nearly 5% in a month and the discount to Chicago nearly halving. Brazilian crush margins have compounded the squeeze, deteriorating from the strong results seen early in the year until some regions turned negative and a few crushers brought forward scheduled maintenance shutdowns. As a result, less Brazilian soybean oil reaches the market at the moment domestic demand begins to build. For buyers with physical exposure, the off season is when domestic supply conditions, rather than moves in Chicago, drive the Brazilian soybean oil spread.
Brazil Biodiesel Demand Peaks in August to October, Tightening Soybean Oil
Brazilian biodiesel demand reaches its seasonal high between August and October, pulling more soybean oil into the domestic fuel market. Garcia explains that diesel sales "seasonally accelerate between August and October here in Brazil, pulling biodiesel along with them", which makes the fifth bimester the period that concentrates the strongest biodiesel demand of the year. Notably, that peak arrives just as soybean planting gets underway and crush activity slows, leaving the domestic Brazilian soybean oil balance tighter. The trade-off falls on exports, which ran strongly in the first eight months of 2026, rising 41% year on year and already surpassing the full 2025 total. According to Garcia, "the coming months still point to a tighter domestic oil balance that supports higher prices, but it erodes the competitiveness of the Brazilian product abroad".
