The British pound is bid ahead of the Bank of England meeting, setting sterling apart from the other FX majors as the U.S. dollar softens. U.S. dollar performance after the midterm elections has been uneven rather than a clean selloff, with several major pairs hinting at possible swing lows. Buying interest in the British pound into a central bank decision gives the currency a driver of its own, separate from the broader dollar story. That split matters for anyone comparing sterling with the euro, which has climbed into resistance.
Matt Simpson, StoneX Media Market Analyst, covers FX macro, equity indices, gold and oil, with a focus on technical analysis and market sentiment. That coverage gives insight into how the British pound, the euro and the U.S. dollar are behaving around central bank events such as the Bank of England meeting.

British Pound Bid Sets Sterling Apart Before the Bank of England Decision
The British pound is attracting buying interest ahead of the Bank of England decision, separating sterling from the broader U.S. dollar picture. With a central bank meeting on the calendar, "it does look like the British pound is bid into that," Simpson says. That leaves the pound outside the group of dollar pairs where price action hints at swing lows, notably marking it as "not one of the pairs I'm looking at fading against". As a result, the British pound's next move rests more on the Bank of England outcome than on the dollar's post-election swings. Sterling therefore carries a distinct, event-driven profile among the FX majors.
British Pound and Euro Diverge as the U.S. Dollar Tests Its Lows
The British pound and the euro are taking different paths against a softer U.S. dollar, with sterling bid into the Bank of England decision and the euro stalling near resistance. The U.S. dollar is testing its lows and looks as though it may want to break lower, yet performance across the FX majors remains uneven. Consequently, a softer U.S. dollar is not lifting every major currency in the same way, and the euro's behavior at resistance carries as much weight as the dollar's own direction. According to Simpson, "when I look at the euro, yes, it's come up towards these resistance levels, but I'm not convinced that it's going to simply reverse higher at the moment."
