Peru’s Coffee Exports Rise 5.2% In First Half
Coffee Network (Bogota)- Peru shipped 782,033 bags of 60-kg in the first half of the year, up slightly from the 743,463 bags in the same period last year, the Peruvian coffee and cocoa chamber said.
Coffee exports brought in $308.2 million in the first half, up from $303.1 million in the same period last year.
A significant portion of the exports recorded during the first half of the year corresponds to leftover coffee from the previous harvest, the chamber said. Consequently, the cumulative export volume through June cannot be interpreted directly as a reflection of the size of the 2026 crop. On the contrary, the availability of inventory from the 2025 harvest contributed significantly to meeting demand during the first few months of the year. Therefore, it will be necessary to monitor the progress of commercialization in the second half of the year to evaluate the performance of the current crop with greater accuracy, the chamber added.
Although exported volume remains below the exceptional levels seen in 2022 and 2024, it exceeds the cumulative totals for 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2025, consolidating a recovery in shipments during the first half of the year, the chamber said.
Price Evolution
The average price of Peruvian coffee reached US$302 per quintal in January-June, lower than the $312 in the same period last year.
“This situation reflects the strong demand for Peruvian coffee and buyers' willingness to pay positive differentials to secure supply."
Main Export Destinations
Peruvian coffee exports maintained a high geographic concentration. The United States consolidated its position as the main destination, with 264,458 bags, representing approximately 33% of total exports during the January–June. This market generated an FOB value of US$106.6 million, confirming its central role within the sector's commercial structure. Belgium ranked second, with 110,612 bags and a share of approximately 15%, followed by Germany with 75,7150 bags and Colombia with 73,715, both with shares of approximately 10%.
Together, these five markets accounted for more than 75% of the total volume exported, highlighting the sector's strong dependence on a limited group of traditional destinations.
Also noteworthy is the presence of specialized markets such as Japan, China, South Korea, and Hong Kong, which recorded some of the highest unit prices, highlighting opportunities for differentiated and higher-value-added coffees.
Export Business Structure
Export activity remained highly concentrated in a small group of leading companies, which accounted for a significant proportion of the total bags exported during the year. These companies maintained a consistent presence throughout the months, with well-defined export peaks and a clear capacity to handle large volumes on a recurring basis.
The main exporters were Perales Huancaruna, which led exports contributing with 59,257 bags. This was followed by Olam Agro Peru with 50,547 bags. The third largest coffee exporter is Exportadora Romex with 33,894 bags and Ama´z Cofee Trading with 33,894 bags.
The top 35 exporters accounted for approximately 74.8% of the total volume shipped during the first half of 2026, while the 'Others' category concentrated the remaining 25.2%, comprising a total of 159 exporting companies. This demonstrates that although there is a core group of companies with a predominant share in coffee foreign trade, there continues to be a significant base of small and medium-sized exporters contributing meaningfully to the national export supply, the chamber noted.
Other Products Linked to the Coffee Sector
On the other hand, trade in derivative products continues to show a sharp contrast between exports and imports.
Exports of processed products totaled 248 metric tons with an FOB value of US$ 2.9 million, led by categories such as other coffee products, coffee-based preparations, and roasted coffee.
In contrast, imports reached 3,892 metric tons with a CIF value of US$ 63.6 million, driven primarily by soluble coffee and coffee-based preparations. This gap confirms that Peru remains a net importer of higher-value industrially processed products, pointing to an opportunity to strengthen value addition within the national coffee supply chain.
Looking ahead to the coming months, prospects will be closely tied to the progress of the 2026 harvest and the movement of international prices. The combination of still-active demand and relatively tight supply will continue to be key factors driving market behavior through the second half of the year.
