Peru’s Coffee Exports Rise in Volume and Value
Bogota (Coffee Network)- Coffee exports from Peru increased in both volume and value at the start of the year, driven by stronger supply and higher international prices, according to the country’s Coffee and Cocoa Chamber.
Peru exported 295,206 bags in January–February, a 32.6% increase compared to 222,657 bags in the same period last year. In value terms, exports reached $129.06 million, up 67.3% from $77.16 million a year earlier.
Despite some variations in volume, export earnings have remained resilient due to rising prices. “Compared to January–February 2024, the contrast remains clear: although 2026 volume is lower, FOB value remains at similar levels thanks to the sharp increase in average prices,” the chamber said. Prices rose from $160.01 per quintal in 2024 to $335.19 per quintal in 2026, highlighting a stronger recovery in value than in physical shipments.
Stable volumes, surging revenues
Peru exported 4.073 million 60-kg bags of coffee in 2025, broadly stable compared to 4.004 million bags in 2024 and higher than the 3.43 million bags shipped in 2023.
However, export revenues climbed sharply due to the surge in global prices. Total FOB export value reached $1.814 billion in 2025, up from $1.097 billion in 2024 and more than double the $819 million recorded in 2023.
Export structure and key markets
Exports remain concentrated among a small group of large exporters, which account for a significant share of shipments. At the same time, a wide base of small and medium-sized exporters contributes to supply diversification.
The United States was Peru’s main destination in early 2026, importing 93,649 bags, up 31.8% year-on-year, with an FOB value of $43.04 million and an average price of $352.38 per quintal.
Belgium followed with 44,338 bags (15.1% of total exports), valued at $19.10 million and priced at $330.28 per quintal. Colombia imported 38,054 bags (12.9% of shipments) at an average price of $224.65 per quintal. Germany and Canada imported 25,562 and 20,655 bags, respectively.
Together, these markets accounted for approximately 75.6% of total exports.
Significant price differences were observed across destinations. Premium markets such as China ($770.23 per quintal), South Korea ($764.24), Japan ($523.48), and the United States reflect clear segmentation based on quality, product type, and commercial terms.
Among exporters, Exportadora Romex led shipments with 27,027 bags, overtaking Olam Agro, which ranked second with 25,956 bags.ç
Full-year 2025 export destinations
In 2025, the United States remained Peru’s top market, importing about 1.28 million bags (31.5% of total exports) with an FOB value of approximately $618 million.
Germany ranked second with around 685,000 bags (16.8%), followed by Belgium with 423,000 bags (10.4%), Canada with about 400,000 bags (9.8%), and Colombia with approximately 263,000 bags (6.5%).
These five markets together accounted for more than 75% of total exports, underscoring Peru’s reliance on a limited number of traditional destinations, primarily in North America and Europe.
Other coffee products
In January–February 2026, exports of coffee derivatives totaled 81,677.8 kg, generating $1.04 million in FOB value at an average price of $12.68 per kg.
Coffee derivatives led the category with 34,432.8 kg (42.2% of volume and 46.2% of value). Roasted coffee beans followed with 22,188.2 kg (26.5% of value), while coffee-based preparations accounted for 16,509.7 kg (19.2% of value). Ground roasted coffee represented a smaller share but remains part of the export mix.
On the import side, Peru recorded purchases of 1,037,916.8 kg, valued at $18.12 million (CIF), with an average price of $17.46 per kg. Imports were concentrated in two categories: coffee-based preparations (45.1% of CIF value) and instant coffee (47.4%). Together, these products accounted for more than 91% of total import value in this segment.
