Uganda’s Coffee Exports Jump 21% in July

By: CommodityNetwork Team - USA, CommodityNetwork USA

CoffeeNetwork (New York) – The latest data from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) showed that the country exported 997,105 bags of green coffee in July, an increase of 21.38% from the same month last year.

This was comprised of 914,448 bags of Robusta, which increased by 18.4%; and 82,105 bags of Arabica, which jumped by 68.18%.

In terms of value, total coffee exports earned US $250.60 million in July, 19.08% higher than the earnings recorded in July 2024.

Coffee export volume was higher than the previous year on account of a good crop harvest in most coffee growing regions especially Greater Masaka and South Western Regions. Export value of coffee was also higher due to the higher volumes. The average price was however lower than last year as global prices decreased due to signs of increased supply from Vietnam and new harvest from Brazil.

Coffee exports for twelve months (August 2024-July 2025) totaled 7.93 million bags worth US$ 2.25 billion compared to 6 .88 million bags worth US$ 1.41 billion in the previous year (August 2023-July 2024). This represents an increase of 15.29% and 59.42% in quantity and value respectively.

Since the start of the coffee year, coffee exports now total 6.55 million bags worth US$ 1.88 billion compared to 4.98 million bags worth US$ 1.03 billion in the same period the previous year (October 2023- July 2024).

65% of the export total volume was exported by top 10 exporters, out of 91 companies which performed during the month compared to 68% in the month of June 2025. Wugar had the highest price at US$ 7.20 per kilogram.

Italy maintained the highest market share with 31.14% compared to 34.67% last month. It was followed by Sudan 12.51% (7.80%), Germany 11.40% (12.22%), Algeria 6.15% (4.25%), and Belgium16% (2.34%).

The first 10 major destinations of Uganda coffee took a market share of 79.88% compared to 79.19% the previous month. Coffee exports to African countries totaled 236,691 bags, a market share of 24% compared to 169,663 bags (16%) the previous month. African countries that imported Uganda coffee included Sudan, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Libia, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and Senegal. Europe remained the main destination for Uganda’s coffees with a 61% import share, lower than 68% in June.

In August, Uganda’s coffee exports are projected to reach 700,000 60- kilo bags in August 2025. The main harvest season in Greater Masaka and south west and the fly crop North of equator has ended. However farmers and traders are still having stocks that were withheld as they waited for improvement in the coffee prices.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 7

August 7 – The U.S. economy unexpectedly lost 23k jobs in July, dramatically below market expectations of an 80k increase and marking the worst Non-Farm Payrolls print since February. Furthermore, May and June were both revised sharply downward, with combined revisions showing 103k fewer jobs than previously reported. Outside of the healthcare sector, which added 22k jobs in July, the losses were very broad-based. Government payrolls saw the largest decline, shedding 53k jobs in July, the largest seen since October 2025, while June was revised down to show a loss of 10k jobs as well. The private sector at least saw growth, adding 30k jobs in July, now matching the month prior after it was revised down from the 49k initially reported, and substantially missing forecasts of 78k jobs being added. This is a sharp reversal in course from the largely better than expected U.S. labor data seen earlier this week.

Perspective: Morning Commentary for August 6

August 6 – This morning’s stronger-than-expected U.S. labor data offered markets some relief, reinforcing confidence in the economy while giving the Fed greater flexibility to raise rates should inflationary pressures reaccelerate in next week’s July data. Stock futures are pointing to a mixed open to start the day, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq showing the most weakness. The VIX has fallen notably from yesterday’s spike above 18.4 as it starts the day hovering just below the 16-mark. The dollar is quietly higher as it trades just above 99.8, holding in the tight range seen thus far this week as traders continue to digest data to shape expectations for the Fed’s next move, which we’ll dive into in more depth below. Long-term treasury yields have relaxed slightly from their recent spike, with 30-year yields starting the day trading just above 5.19%, while 10-year yields trade above 4.64%, and 2-year yields sit below 4.22%. Crude oil is modestly higher to start the session after sharp declines earlier in the week, with nearby WTI up 1.8% to trade at $76.40 and nearby Brent up 2.4% to trade at $81.40. Meanwhile, the ags are quietly mixed to start the day.
