StoneX Sales Associate Becomes Emergency Backup Goalie for Seattle Kraken

Michael Matyas, a sales associate in StoneX’s New York City office, found himself on the bench as an emergency backup goalie (EBUG) for the NHL’s Seattle Kraken during their game against the New York Rangers.
This unexpected call up occurred when Kraken goalie Joey Daccord was sidelined due to illness, leaving the team without enough time to recall a goalie from across the country. The 32-year-old Calgary native, who played goalie for the University of Alaska-Anchorage between 2012 and 2015, was signed to an amateur tryout offer by the Kraken.

Matyas's unique experience included:
- Taking part in warmups at Madison Square Garden, often referred to as "the most famous arena in the world"
- Standing between the pipes and facing shots from Kraken skaters
- Being prepared to potentially enter an NHL game, a dream for many hockey enthusiasts
While Philip Grubauer was set to start in goal, Matyas served as the backup, potentially making him the first player in Kraken franchise history to wear the number 1 jersey.
