Arabica Prices Turn Higher
CoffeeNetwork - Arabica prices on the InterContinental Exchange are trading higher by 2.05 based on the September contract, last seen at 174.75 with moderate volume around 17,603 contracts. The December contract was last seen trading 2.25 higher at 178.00 with 13,536 contracts.
Arabica futures rose today after falling from a seven-year high touched last month after frost occurred in some key coffee producing regions in Brazil. Forecasts have circulated the market, which are assessing damage in a range of 1.5 to 5 million bags. Impact from the frost is only heightening the already bullish fundamental picture as the market shifted from a surplus to a deficit for the 2021-2022 coffee year. The coffee market also appears to be shrugging off external factors today such as weak currencies in Latin America, including Brazil’s Real, which hit its lowest in two weeks after data showed industrial production was unchanged in June from the previous month. Activity is centered around the spread ahead of the First Notice Day for the September contract on August 23rd.
Robusta futures are also higher today, following the gains of the Arabica market.
Commodities are mostly lower today. Factory orders in the US surged 1.5% mom in June of 2021, following an upwardly revised 2.3% rise in the previous month.
Brent Crude Oil fell 0.45% to 72.56 and Spot Gold Futures also ticked 0.17% lower to 1,810.47.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.46% to 34,999.36 and the Stoxx Europe 600 Index was last seen at 465.38, up 0.20%.
