With expectations for a December rate hike above 70% and crude oil prices persistently elevated, the U.S. Dollar Index is retesting its 2026 highs. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields and the dollar are moving together, as yields that climb on Middle East escalation and inflation concerns lend direct support to the U.S. Dollar Index. Conversely, a sustained retreat in Treasury yields on a de-escalation narrative would likely pressure the dollar. As a result, the Iran war, the Israeli elections, and the U.S. midterm elections now sit at the center of the path for both markets.

Treasury Yields Lift the Dollar Index Toward Its 2026 Highs
U.S. 10-year Treasury yields are climbing back above a key threshold, and the U.S. Dollar Index is retesting its 2026 highs as expectations for a December rate hike by the Federal Reserve rise above 70%. Persistently elevated crude oil prices and inflation concerns add further support to the U.S. Dollar Index against major currencies. According to Hilal, the daily chart shows "a potential impulsive wave spanning from the lows of August 2026 within the broader 2026 advance", a wave that may now be tracing its fifth leg. For dollar-sensitive markets, firmer yields and a maturing U.S. Dollar Index advance keep EUR/USD under pressure as it tests its 2026 lows.
Middle East Escalation Splits the Path for Yields and the Dollar
U.S. 10-year Treasury yields have tracked the Middle East conflict, finding support during a recent drawdown linked to geopolitical uncertainty around the Iran war. A sustained drop in Treasury yields, consistent with a de-escalation narrative, would likely pressure the U.S. Dollar Index, whereas a climb back above the yearly highs would align with escalation, rising crude oil prices, and inflation concerns. The Israeli elections and the U.S. midterm elections add a further swing factor, since either outcome may alter the geopolitical backdrop steering yields and the dollar. Momentum sharpens that two-way risk, with Hilal flagging "overbought levels that aligned with key bearish reversals on the U.S. dollar index chart".
