Eric Rose, StoneX Digital LLC Head of Digital Asset Execution, examines how regulatory clarity, ETF growth and blockchain innovation are pushing digital assets further into the financial mainstream.
Rose explains that recent leadership changes at the SEC and CFTC have shifted the U.S. approach to digital asset oversight. “We’ve seen a tremendous shift in how the U.S. approaches the regulatory infrastructure”. The introduction of new acts on stablecoins and clarity around asset classification are giving institutional investors greater confidence to participate in the market.
He highlights that cooperation between agencies will be critical in defining whether assets are commodities or securities, ultimately paving the way for banks and large financial institutions to join the market.
Beyond regulatory changes, Rose points to the rise of digital asset treasury companies. “We’ve seen north of 150, probably even 200 companies now launch focusing on various tokens beyond just Bitcoin”. This development is creating a new layer of demand and market depth as corporations diversify their holdings.
He adds that these entities are exploring yield enhancement and staking strategies to improve returns, suggesting that the evolution of digital asset treasuries will continue to shape the next stage of market growth.
Rose notes that while much of the public focus is on crypto prices, the transformative potential lies in blockchain’s underlying technology. He highlights efficiencies in industries like real estate, healthcare and trade finance. “Once you put something like the information of the house onto a smart contract, you don’t need to do that verification anymore”.
He also mentions new developments in digital identity verification, data management and asset tokenization as examples of how blockchain is streamlining processes across sectors.
As global uncertainty grows, Bitcoin’s fixed supply and decentralised structure are attracting investors seeking protection from inflation and currency debasement. “Bitcoin holds the unique properties in the fixed supply, which creates this anti-inflationary aspect to it”.
Rose believes Bitcoin will increasingly feature in mainstream finance, serving as collateral, a store of value and potentially a tool in broader financial transactions as its institutional acceptance expands.
