Ecuador Coffee Exports In Jan-November Surpass 2022 levels
Coffee Network (Bogota) –Ecuador’s exports of freeze-dried and green coffee, including Robusta and Arabica, in January-November already surpassed the consolidated figure for 2022,, according to figures from the Ecuador’s coffee association, Anecafe.
Ecaudor exported 568,772 bags in January-November, Although no comparative figure was provided, it means exports in the first eleven months surpassed the 538,662 bags exported in the full 2022 year.
Coffee export revenues totaled $113.86 million in January-November 2023, up 12.05% on the year.
Ecuador exported 541,663 bags of industrialized coffee, also known as freeze-dried coffee in the first eleven months. Ecuador imports green beans from Vietnam and Brazil, which then are processed to get reexport it as industrialized coffee. That implies that exports are rising because in the full year 2022 it exported 461,175 bags of industrialized coffee.
The value of exports of industrialized coffee totaled $104.9 million, up 34.9% on the year.
In addition, it exported 16,909 bags in Robusta. The value of Robusta beans declined 67.5% to US$3.2 million on the year.
It also exported 10,199 bags of Arabica, worth $5.88 million, down 57.7% on year.
The largest coffee exporter is Compañia de Elaborados de Café El Café with 498,777 bags, followed by Askelgado by a distant second place with 37,409 bags and Serviagro with 7,794 bags.
Germany is the main buyer of Ecuador’s coffee, followed by Russia, Poland and Colombia.
Ecuador has declared an internal armed conflict, according to its new president Daniel Noboa. Noboa has declared war on drugs gangs, holding scores of prison guards hostage. Noboa has pledged to build new penitentiaries, put gang leaders in new high-security prisons and extradite foreign prisoners to their native nations.
