The Sterling rally remains firmly intact, but stretched momentum is raising the risk of a near-term inflection as the bulls test resistance.

British Pound Technical Outlook: GBP/USD Short-Term Trade Levels
- GBP/USD has advanced nearly 4% from the yearly low as daily momentum strengthens to its highest reading since January.
- Four-week rally testing resistance at the May high- bulls vulnerable near-term while below.
- Price and momentum are approaching important technical thresholds that could determine whether the advance can extend into month-end.
- The medium-term technical structure remains constructive while above the yearly open
- Resistance 1.3460/74 (key), 1.3509, 1.3591/93- Support 1.3397, 1.3302/26 (key), 1.3187/94
Sterling is attempting to extend its recent winning streak after yesterday's weekly opening-range break accelerated the advance to fresh three-month highs. Momentum continues to strengthen alongside the move, reinforcing the constructive medium-term technical backdrop even as the risk of near-term exhaustion begins to rise. The focus now shifts to whether buyers can absorb a potential pullback while preserving the rising trend structure needed to keep the broader advance intact. Battle lines drawn on the GBP/USD short-term technical charts.
British Pound Price Chart – GBP/USD Daily

Chart Prepared by Michael Boutros, Sr. Technical Strategist; GBP/USD on TradingView
Technical Outlook: Sterling has rallied more than 3.9% off the yearly low with the bulls now attempting to mark a fourth consecutive weekly advance. GBP/USD is trading within the confines of a proposed ascending pitchfork extending off the late-July low with the rally extending into initial resistance today at the May high near 1.3658. Looking for a reaction off this mark with the broader outlook constructive while above the yearly open.
GBP/USD Daily RSI

Note that daily momentum has now reached the highest levels since January with RSI trading just below 70 ahead of the US close on Thursday. A topside breach in price alongside a push higher in momentum would be needed to fuel the next leg of the advance.
British Pound Price Chart – GBP/USD 240min

Chart Prepared by Michael Boutros, Sr. Technical Strategist; GBP/USD on TradingView
Notes: A closer look at Sterling price action shows GBP/USD breaking out of the weekly opening range yesterday with the rally exhausting into resistance today at 1.3658. Initial support now rests with the 61.8% retracement of the yearly range and the 2025 May / August highs at 1.3591/93 backed by the July high at 1.3558. Note that the median-line converges on this level early next week and a break / close below this slope would threaten a larger pullback within the multi-month uptrend. Key support / broader bullish invalidation now rests with the February low-day close (LDC) and the objective yearly open at 1.3465/74. Losses beyond this pivot zone would suggest a more significant high is in place and threaten a larger reversal in trend.
A breach higher from here exposes the yearly high-week close (HWC) and the 100% extension of the June rally at 1.3685/92 and 1.3746/49- a region defined by the 2025 high-day close (HDC) and the 2022 swing high. Note that the upper parallel converges on this region into the close of the month- look for a larger reaction there IF reached. The next major technical consideration is eyed with the yearly high-day close / swing high at 1.3848/70.
Bottom line: GBP/USD has rallied 1.8% off the monthly low with the bulls now testing resistance at three-month highs. Risk for some kickback here but the medium-term outlook remains constructive while above the yearly open. From a trading standpoint, losses should be limited to 1.3558 IF Sterling is heading higher on this stretch with a breach / close above 1.3658 needed to mark uptrend resumption.
